Well, not quite. In fact, we haven't even left yet. Sally, Alex and I were supposed to be on a plane leaving Charlotte and headed to JFK yesterday morning. Well, that didn't happen. While I was in the air headed from Albuquerque to Charlotte, we found out that we had no word on the status of our visa applications. After making about 100 phone calls, I decided ro proceed onto Charlotte but we would need to reschedule both of our flights out. So for the last two days, I have been trying to wait patiently for any word on what to do. Finally we found out that our visas were done and should be delivered by 10 AM on Thursday morning. So we contacted the agent who booked our original flight and they were able to reroute it through Charlotte, instead of having to fly out of JFK.
So we finally thought everything was going to work out fine and that we has nothing to worry about. Alex and I spent our last day in the United States eating Chic-fil-a and getting pedicures. Not exactly an international flight to Frankfurt but it sufficed.
Finally Thursday morning rolled around and we thought we had hit the home stretch. That was until we discovered that Alex's passport had not come back with the visa stamp. This meant that we could leave when we were supposed to but that Alex would have to figure out her visa situation before being in the country longer than 90 days.
Once again, the waiting process dragged on. It hasn't felt like we were really going to Italy the entire last six months. And that unreal feeling is continuing on.
Hopefully nothing else will happen and we will arrive in Florence tomorrow afternoon at 12:15.
